A cheerful rhyming tale for our beloved children. Fun, colorful, and never boring, but with a moral at the end.
Once upon a time there lived an old man,
who fished every day.
His name was Radko,
a sonorous, beautiful, and short name.
He caught a golden fish
and took pity on it.
He released it back into the water,
not thinking of a reward.
But at home, Grandma Zlata
greeted him with a broom.
She wished for a palace,
gold, pearls, and brocade,
she wanted servants and a retinue,
delicious feasts to her heart’s content.
But at the end of the tale
Grandma Zlata was enchanted
and for her greed
the fish rewarded her
again with the old trough—
crooked, rotten, and full of holes!
