“The Seed,” a film about Mister Senko, will open the third edition of the “Festival of Contemporary Bulgarian and European Children’s and Youth Cinema,” which aims to promote feature films for children and young people produced in Bulgaria and Europe.
On February 12, 1905, the legendary Bulgarian illusionist Mr. Senko (Evstati Hristov Karayonchev) was born in Vratsa. World-renowned for his magic, he began his career at the “Bulgaria” Circus and left his mark as one of the greatest artists in the field of illusion. The year 2025 marked the 120th anniversary of his birth. This is also the reason for the creation of the film “The Seed” .
Mister Senko is an honorary citizen of Paris, Sofia, and his hometown of Vratsa, recognized worldwide as a great magician. Thanks to his talent, hard work, diligence, courage, and generous spirit, Vratsa native Evstati Karayonchev grew to become one of the most gifted Bulgarian magicians of all time. Despite his difficult childhood, he managed to achieve an astonishing creative career. The illusion that brought him worldwide fame and impressed Hollywood was “The Head Removal.” With this act, Mr. Senko won the special award from the American Association of Magicians (1961, Indiana). Other famous illusions of his include “The Electric Chair” and “Sawing a Woman in Half with a Circular Saw.”
